    I have read this book, or at least parts thereof, a few times since I bought it on the recommendation of my psychologist. And one great thing about this book, of many, is that you can read chapters in isolation.This is a very practical and honest guide. I will admit I have personal reservations about self-help books, and I was concerned about getting this one: but as I started reading it it became apparent this was not a 'positive thinking' book alone, but a very practical guide to overcoming a range of learned responses to stress, anxiety and other emotions that impact negatively in my life.Through examples, comments on research, and activities and questions, this book helps you build up a useful toolkit to assist in changing thinking and behaviour. I am aware CBT is a buzzword and not to everyone's liking, but it worked for me.The use of this book was for me at the same time as medication, regular psychologist & psychiatrist appointments, and after a 4-week stint in a psychiatric ward in a hospital, where I also learned much about CBT. I'd advise anyone who is struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, low-self esteem, anger, etc. to seek professional help as well as books such as this one: as Sarah Edelman writes at the beginning, "...it is important that you receive more specific treatment from qualified mental-health professional. [While books can assist], no book is a substitute for therapy."
